Colliers of Sacramento Turns up for our Troops
Troopathon was happy to welcome a large group of smiling, enthusiastic volunteers from the local Colliers offices in Sacramento. Thanks to Colliers volunteers who even brought along family members including children, we were able to pack up another 240 packages bound for our deserving troops. What a terrific way to teach the next generation the value of community service. These kids really pitched in. We hope we offered them an experience to remember. We certainly won’t forget them or their ear-to-ear grins and can-do attitudes!
According to Dawn Walz, from Colliers who helped coordinate the volunteer opportunity for the Colliers team, “Our team came together to hand-pack 240 care packages, sending our gratitude and encouragement to those who serve. We are honored to contribute to such a meaningful mission and show our appreciation for the sacrifices made by our troops. Here's to giving back and building stronger connections at Colliers!”
Packathon 7 Return with Special VSP Shades
Mark your calendar! Our 7th annual Packathon is slated to return on Wednesday, September 11. Troopathon and our amazing volunteers from VSP will be rolling up their sleeves got our annual Packathon event. Troopathon established Packathon to honor the men and women we lost during the tragic events of September 11th, 2001.
Packathon is our way of supporting the brave men and women who continue to fight to protect us. Our goal is to pack 2001 care packages for shipping to active-duty military serving across the globe.
Furthermore, to make our Packathon care packages just that much more special, our VPS volunteer crew is bringing along 2001 pairs of premium sunglasses with cases and special notes of support bound for our troops to let them know VSP thinks they are cool!
As our world becomes more dangerous, with global threats on the rise and the sinister specter of a strengthening Taliban flexing its muscle, we must remail ever vigilant.
Care packages REALLY are an effective tool to let our troops know we care about them! We receive letters and notes back from the troops every day detailing just how important these care packages are to the troops who receive them.
Tower II survivor, Troopathon Board Member and community ambassador, Richard Hannaford will be present to speak with local media and share his powerful story and personal journey. Richard knows the importance of remembering and honoring the victims of the 9/11 the terrorist attacks.
Richard frequently speaks at Troopathon events about his experiences from that terrible day. He is a proud and grateful American. Richard frequently lends a hand in our warehouse and pitches in to pack boxes as his way to commemorate September 11.
Mmmmm… Coffee!
Sometimes getting out of bed is a major drag, just image what it must be like for our troops serving in dangerous, unfamiliar, and grinding conditions. That first cup of morning Joe can be a life saver, from the aroma of freshly brewed coffee to the welcome jolt of caffeine as it lights up the old circuits. Coffee is a delight that just can’t be underestimated.
Coffee, in addition to waking us up and getting us going, is also powerfully evocative. The memories just come flooding back, you’re instantly transported to a better place, a happier place. That’s why we can’t thank the good folks at San Francisco Bay Coffee for their continued and unwavering support of our mission. Thanks to San Francisco Bay Coffee, our care packages.
Fun Fact: coffee is the number 1 requested item by our troops and SF Bay coffee was founded by an ARMY veteran who knows the importance of a good cup of coffee in the hands of our troops.
In September, We Remember
September 11, 2001— Twenty-three years cannot erase the vivid image of the Twin Towers billowing smoke against an impossibly blue New York skyline. September 11, 2001, a day that forever changed our nation. We remember the heroics of NYPD fire and police units who responded without thought to their own safety and the incredible sacrifices of those aboard flight 93 who through their selfless sacrifice saved countless lives. Although the Twin Towers no longer grace the New York Skyline, the Pentagon remains, its beige stone facing bearing the scars of terrorism.
September 11, 2012 — Terrorists once again attacked the U.S. through the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya. Although first reported as an unorganized local protest surrounding a movie, it soon became clear this was a directed and organized strike which needlessly cost the lives U.S. Ambassador to Libya, Christopher Stevens, former SEALs Glen Doherty and Ty Woods along with foreign service worker Sean Smith.
September 18 — Celebrates the 77th birthday of both the United States Air Force and the Air National Guard. Although United States military aviation has deeper roots and played vital roles in protection of our nation, This date was officially established on September 18, 1947. Cheers to you our mighty Air Force!
